Printing Using DAVE

This is a way that enables you to print to printers that do not have AppleTalk turned on. You will see the same printers a Windows machine does and will need proper permissions to print to some of these printers.

Note: You will need to know what the printer is (ie. HP 4050) because the printer description is not selected automatically this way. It starts with a generic driver. You will have to change it. Instructions below.

First, go to the Chooser (found in Apple Menu Items).

Select DAVE Client and then the Server you want to log into. AppleTalk Zones have no effect on this.

Click OK and log into the server.

After you are logged in, select the printer you would like to print to.

Click OK.

Check the box Allow Binary Printing.

Click Continue.

A desktop printer will be created. You can close out of the Chooser.

It will display a Generic icon.

Next, select the desktop printer.

Now go to the Menu Bar and select Printing/Change Setup.

A box similar to below will appear.

Click Change as we want to select the correct PPD file.

Select the correct PPD file. If you are not automatically brought there, navigate to System Folder/Extensions/Printer Descriptions.

Now you should see all the proper options for the printer.

Click OK. Your desktop icon will probably change to match the printer.

Good luck!
