Setting up printers for Macs

on HP printers with JetDirect cards.

 

Part 1: The printer.

 

Next to the display panel on the printer, there will be some buttons.

 

Use Select.

 

Keep selecting until it displays EIO JetDirect Menu.

 

Use Select.

 

Use Item.

 

It should display CFG Network=No *.

 

Use Value. It will now say CFG Network=Yes.

 

Use Select. It will now say CFG Network=Yes *.

 

Use Item till it displays Etalk=Off *.

 

Use Value. It will now say Etalk=Yes.

 

Use Select. It will now say Etalk=Yes *.

 

Use Menu. Resets Menu.

Part 2: Naming.

 

The printer will appear in the Mac Chooser (if you have your network configured correctly) but will have the generic name of the type of printer.

 

For instance, if you have three HP 4000s, they will all appear in the Chooser window named HP 4000. This can be very confusing.

 

You should go to AppleÕs web site and get the Apple Printer Utility which will allow you to name the printers more intuitively. This link worked when this document was created:
