Password Security

For your Powerbook

You are required to do this as it is a Scient standard for security.

Go to Control Panels/Password Security.

Click on Setup.

Your password must contain a number. Example: 65Goat.

In Password Setup, enter your password and enter it again.

Enter a hint to remind you what password you are using.

You are required to make sure that Michael LoRusso knows your password as there will be NO WAY to troubleshoot and repair your Powerbook otherwise.

It is so secure, it will have to go to Apple if you forget your password.

REALLY.

In Security Setup, check Also ask when waking from sleep.

Check Show ownership information.

For Name, enter your full name. No nicknames.

Do not put anything in Telephone.

For Address, enter exactly as the window below shows.

In case pic is not readable, here is the exact text to be entered:

Do Not Attempt To Log On

Unless You Are An Authorized

Scient Employee

Click OK.

At the Password Security screen, turn Password Protection ON.

Close panel.

Password Protection will be active upon restart.

Now, in order to use YOUR Powerbook, the password must be entered or the machine will not start.

When you leave your desk, close the lid and your Powerbook will go to sleep. When you return, open the lid and touch any key to wake it. The correct password must be entered or it will go back to sleep.

Your data and ScientŐs data is now more secure!

Some notes on Sleep mode:

Microsoft Outlook does not always reconnect to the network when it wakes from sleep. I just quit mine before putting Powerbook to sleep and relaunch it when I wake the machine up.
