Outlook 2001 Beta

How to install it and get it to work.

Open it up the Outlook Folder and select Microsoft Outlook.

Do a Get Info and change the RAM to 14000 Preferred and Minimun.

Close Get Info box when done.

Double-click to launch Outlook.

Choose Accept. Then it will install a bunch of parts.

Name: Your name

Organization: Scient

In the next screen enter in your information like this user did below. Contact Support if you do not know your Exchange server.

Next, click Test Settings.

If everything is okay, you will see another screen that gives you the choice Create Profile. Select it. If it says you have a problem, contact Support.

On the next screen enter your NT User name, NT password, and the Domain of Scient.

Unless you have better apps you want to use, I would make it my default email and newsgroup app.

WooHoo! You are in.

I would now go to View/Folder List to turn this on.

Now, to add some more features.

Go to Tools/Services.

Click Add and then select Personal Address Book and select Add.

In the next screen select New.

Take the default name (Personal Address Book) and select Save.

Select OK in the next screen.

It will then tell you the service added is not available until you restart the app. Ok.

Go ahead and add a Personal Folder the same way. This will be your offline folder where you put emails you donŐt want to delete but must take off the server for space. As a suggestion, always take the defaults when you do these things. DonŐt go adding extra security or anything. Makes it difficult to recover.

While we are here, select Microsoft Exchange Server and select Properties. Check the box for Choose the connection type when starting. Click OK.

Click OK to leave Services.

Now, back at the main screen. In your folder list, see the way some icons have a small circle on them. These are available on or offline. If you want others available offline, select them, control-click on them, and choose properties. Go to the Synchronization tab and select When offline or online.

LetŐs see how this works.

Go to Tools and select All Folders.

It will synchronize everything and make sure your offline folders are up to date.

When this is done (it will take a while the very first time you do it) synchronize your Address Book also. YouŐll want this available offline.

Quit Outlook and then start it again. This time select Offline at login and see if the folders you wanted available are there.

Quit and launch again, this time logging on and enjoying your new powerfull email program.

Your Calendar will sync with the PC, you will have a preview pane, and there are many more goodies. The only major thing missing is Palm sync which is promised in the full version shipping this summer.

Here is how to re-use your former Personal Folders and Address Book from Outlook 8.2.2.

Go to your old Outlook 8.2.2 folder and move your Personal Folder into the same folder as your newer Outlook 2001 folder.

If it is named the same as the one you created for your new one, simply give it another name. Personal Folders Old comes to mind.

Launch Outlook 2001.

Go to Tools/Services.

Select Add and choose Personal Folders.

In the open window, select your Personal Folders Old.

Take the following defaults, click okay, and you are back at Outlook.

Quit Outlook 2001 and launch it again. There are your old saved emails!

You can use the same method for your older Address Book also.

Have fun!
