Using this damn scanner

Some things weÕve observed.

á      When you are in an application, like Photoshop, and you want to scan, use the Scantastic choice and not the Twain acquire choice. We seem to have better luck this way.

á      Hitting the scanner does not seem to help it produce scans. ItÕs already been tried several times to no effect. So please donÕt repeat this process.

Scanner cannot be found.

á      If you get a message saying the scanner cannot be found, first make sure it is turned on. Get out of the Scantastic dialogs. If the scanner is on already, turn it off, the turn it on again. Try and open Scantastic again.

á      If above doesnÕt work, try quitting the app and re-openning it.

á      If it still cannot find scanner, make sure cables are in properly and try restarting.

á      If you still cannot get it to work, contact support.

Memory problems. Usually you will lock up during a scan.

á      When you are scanning large documents in millions of colors, the file can be quite large. The Scantastic app would lock up. So we changed the settings in it to use application memory. What this means is it uses part of the memory allocated to the application while it is scanning. This seems to work fine as long as Photoshop (where most scanning is done) is set to use at least 40 Mb of RAM or more.

á      Sometimes things go wrong. After a few scans you might not be able to get another scan. This is because the memory that Scantastic is using in Photoshop is not getting purged completely. Quit the app and restart it.
